Yes, Sophie is a reader. She learned to read by hearing stories read to her by her family, her teachers in school and practicing herself. I think people read for all different reasons. Reading can be recreational, some choose to do during their free time to relax or decompress. Also people read for information and news to lean more about a certain topic or whats going on in the world. Another reason people read is to be involved and connected to other people to share knowledge or ideas. For someone to be a good reader Sophie thinks you must take your time and understand what you're reading. The time is not what's important, what you are taking away and gaining for the information and what you have learned is the goal. Reading is easy for Sophie because she feels she is skilled in interpreting what she is reading and she has a good imagination. She can imagine what she is reading and create a detailed picture in her head. Sophie also has the ability to make connections to what she reads and things in her life such as experiences, people and other articles, papers or posts she's seen. The hardest part of reading for Sophie is confusing on words she doesn't understand. However she can usually understand foreign vocabulary with context clues and the root of the word. She chooses to books she reads by peer recommendations, positive reviews and the genre they are. The qualities Sophie looks for in books are exciting plots, well developed characters, and authors who do a good job of explaining the story they are trying to tell. Sophie rarely reads at home but when she sets time aside to read she enjoys it. Sophie feels reading is an essential skill needed in life that makes you a smarter person and a well developed thinker .
In addition to Sophie being a reader she is also a writer. She learned to write by practicing her letters at home, learning in school and reading books. People write to broadcast their ideas for entertainment or for educational purposes. She believes writing is a way many people choose to express themselves for all different purposes. In order to write well you need to follow proper grammar and spelling rules, have well developed sentences and ideas and have a clear message of what you are trying to say. Also Sophie believes to be a good writer you need to make you audience interested in what you're writing about by the language and tone you use. Sophie likes to write fiction stories along with prompts that require you to analyze the information you have learned. She decides what she will write based on the assignment or whatever creative idea she can think of. Her ideas come from her experiences and the things she likes. What helps Sophie most is constructive criticism because she can learn ways to improve her writing and how to make it better. Sophie does not write at home unless she has a homework assignment where it is required. She feels what she write is a accurate representation of how she feels and what she believes. Sophie believes she is a great writer.
